# Getting Started

> Open Flow Studio and build your first draft.

Flow Studio is available where it is enabled for your organization. You need permission to edit customer profiles and must own the profile's draft. Contact [Apten support](mailto:founders@apten.ai) if you need access.

## Build your first flow

**1. Open a profile**

Go to **Build & Test** and open the customer profile you want to work on. Click **Edit Profile** if it is not already in edit mode, then click **Flow Studio** in the toolbar.

Wait for **All changes saved** before starting.

**2. Describe your agent**

Write a brief or choose a suggestion under **Start from a template**, then adapt it to your business.

> Build an outbound SMS flow for new inquiries. Ask about the lead's needs and timeline, then offer a call with our team if they want to learn more. Ask one question at a time.

Attach a script with the **paperclip**, or use **Add reference documents** to paste supporting text. See [Reference Documents](https://docs.apten.ai/flow-studio/reference-documents.md) for supported files.

**3. Send and watch it build**

Press **Enter** to send. Use **Shift + Enter** for a new line.

Open the **Flow Chart** tab to watch steps and connections appear. The panel shows progress as Flow Studio reads references, edits the profile, and checks its work.

**4. Review and refine**

Read the response, changes, validation results, and any test results. Send a follow-up request in the same conversation.

> Keep the qualification questions, but make the greeting shorter and friendlier.

## Working on an existing profile

Flow Studio can refine the draft you already have. Describe the specific change and anything you want to preserve.

> Add a path for leads who are not ready yet. Keep the existing qualification questions and transfer instructions.

The editor pauses manual changes while Flow Studio is running. Once it finishes, you can continue editing the draft yourself or send another request.
