# Reference Documents

> Give Flow Studio the scripts and business context it needs.

Use your existing sales scripts, qualification guides, policies, and FAQs to explain how the agent should work.

## Attach a file

Click the **paperclip** in the message box or drag files into the Flow Studio panel. Wait for uploads to finish, then send your instructions.

| Supported files | Formats |

| **Documents** | PDF, plain text (`.txt`), Markdown (`.md`) |
| **Images** | PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP |

Attach up to **five files per message**, with a **combined size of 30 MB**. Use the **X** on a file to remove it before sending.

> Use the attached script. Ask the required questions in order, then offer to connect interested leads with our team.

Tell Flow Studio which sections matter and how to handle information that differs between documents.

> Use the script for the conversation order and the policy document for business rules. If a detail is missing, flag it for review.

## Paste reference text

Before sending the first message in a new conversation, expand **Add reference documents** and paste a script, training notes, or FAQs. Put the task you want completed in the message box below it.

## Use your business knowledge

Flow Studio can consult your organization's custom knowledge, connected files, and existing customer profiles to understand your business and follow your conventions.

> Use our New Leads profile as a reference for tone. Build a follow-up flow for leads who want more information before booking a call.

Keep shared business information current in [Custom Knowledge](https://docs.apten.ai/tutorials/custom_knowledge.md). Attach documents when a particular build needs additional context.

## Review the result

Check that required questions, business rules, and handoff instructions made it into the flow. Ask Flow Studio to explain how it used a reference when you want to confirm a detail.
